WINNER OF A DOUBLE GOLD MEDAL at the European Beer Challenge 2021 - JUDGED THE BEST TIPA IN EUROPE!
US craft beer marketing award winner for label design. Platinum award. Best in class.
Awarded the highest honour in Europe's most important beer competition, our Triple IPA took the double prize in a blind tasting judged by a panel of experts. Their extensive process took into consideration all elements of the beer including the appearance, flavour profile, aromas and structure. We're pretty chuffed! But our customer feedback has also been phenomenal so this one is definitely worth a try.
Tasting notes:
You’ve had our DIPA, now try our TIPA, whose name is inspired by the movie V for Vendetta. Pssst goes the can and out you pour a gorgeously amber coloured beer that sits brooding and rewarding beneath a rocky head of snow-white foam. Rich spirituous notes of tropical fruit, ripe mango, pine, orange and grapefruit drift upwards to give the impressions of a boozy fruit salad (with a little bit of pine) in the best possible way. At 10.5%, this is a Goliath of a beer whose flavours are rich with lime, mango, tropical fruit, orange liqueur, a balancing act of graininess, a hop-purchased pepperiness with a tongue-parching dryness and smooth bitterness in the finish. An eloquent digestif of a beer that despite its strength slips down as easily as an otter on a swimming pool slide.
Hops: Citra, Idaho 7
Food pairing: How about going Mediterranean and serving grilled harissa chicken with this beer, with the beer cutting through the spice? Or maybe pulled pork in a roll, unctuous and luscious?

Mini keg (9 pints) of Funky Monkey English Pale Ale, ABV 4%
Tasting notes:
Pour yourself a long tall glass of this English Pale Ale and linger on the light amber gleam before taking in the captivating aromatics of ripe mango and freshly squeezed grapefruit on the nose thanks to Citra and Mosaic in the hop mix. There is more citrus and tropical fruit on the palate, which are balanced by a subtle bittersweetness, before finishing with a clean bitterness and lasting dryness that encourages you to take another swig (yes, this is a beer to swig rather than sip).
Hops: Idaho 7, Citra, Mosaic
Food pairing: Sit on a wall in the sun with a cold Funky Monkey in the company of fish and chips and your day is perfect.

Galaxy, Australian Pale Ale 5.2% ABV
A bit of a Frome favourite, Galaxy is now available in our larger 440mls cans.
Tasting notes:
This luscious Australian pale ale is named after a hop variety from down under, rather than a reference to the outer reaches of the Solar System where C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate (so we’re told). However, it is still a celestial glass of beer with its deep orange golden colour being the launch-pad for a vibrant nose of citrus, stone fruit (peach?), ripe mango, papaya and pine (a pine forest after a rain shower) followed by a more tropical fruit, ripe peach, white grape and biscuity malt on the palate before its bittersweet and tantalisingly dry finish.
Hops: Galaxy

Tasting notes:
There’s a couple of neat history lessons in this beer. For a start, it's hopped with Cluster, the earliest US hop variety, which also found its way into some British beers in the years before World War I. Secondly, it's based on the kind of lagers produced by the many small US breweries that were active before Prohibition (though many never came back afterwards). That’s enough lessons though - beer school’s out and it's time to pour a beer. Straw-gold in colour, it has a subtle nose of sweet grainy malt and slight grapefruit, while each swig (oh yes this is definitely a beer for swigging) reveals a clean and refreshing thirst-quenching combination of gentle citrus notes, a subtle bitterness and a finish that embraces dryness as it was a long-lost love. Treat yourself to several pints of history and make sure you do your homework.
Hops: Cluster, Nugget
Food pairing: It’s got to be classic American street food, so maybe a luscious and juicy burger with a gooey slice of cheese and fries on the side. Or you might want to go slightly upmarket and try it with a New England chowder, with the crispness of the beer cutting through the creaminess of the chowder.

Tasting notes:
Madness Plants Mirrors in the Desert is single hopped with the Strata variety, which overlays this potent and boldly flavoured Double IPA with such a powerful sense of tropical fruitiness that on first acquaintance you might think you’ve just materialised next to a greengrocer’s fruit counter. The beer pours a hazy bruised orange, with notes of passion fruit, ripe mango, sweet orange and banana emerging from its firm rocky head of snow-white foam. Each sip reveals more tropical fruit tenderness, plus a grainy biscuit like sweetness mid-palate before it finishes dry with the tropical fruitiness turning up once more as if for an encore. We think you will like this luscious little number.
Hops: Strata

Bail, bank or flip? Take yourself back to the carefree dream of 1970s California and let the clatter of skates and the devil-may-care coolness of skaters be the background to this amber-coloured Cali-IPA. It pulsates with tropical fruit and fresh pine on the nose, while the palate is a raucous skatepark of mango, guava, peppery hop and a chewy malt sweetness (thanks to the use of the classic barley variety Maris Otter). There is a robust bitterness on the finish. Gnarly, as they say in the world of skateboarding.

New Zealand-grown Nelson Sauvin makes all the running in this juicy, light amber-hued IPA. Named because the hop variety’s characteristics are reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc (so that’s wine drinkers covered), it has made itself very comfortable in each glass of this intriguing IPA. Tasting notes:
A new entrant in the Great Uncle John range. This American dark wheat beer has a darkness in the glass suggestive of an ancient sideboard left by a great-aunt to a favourite nephew. The nose is rich, spicy and complex, with hints of that favourite childhood drink dandelion and burdock. There's ripe stone fruit, dark chocolate and a subtle citrusiness. The palate also features the suggestion of dandelion and burdock alongside dark malt, ripe orchard fruit and citrus all wrapped up with a bracing dry and bitter finish that lingers like the memory of an unforgettable day.
Hops: Bramling Cross, Calypso

Tasting notes:
Well this one is interesting - it tastes like sunshine in a glass. Brewers add all kinds of things to their beers that sometimes don’t work (but mostly do). Here, the addition of basil to this ‘not quite Pale Ale’ certainly works, alongside the American hop variety Amarillo. The result is a nose in which the sweet herbal aroma of basil (with its hints of anise) works in tandem with Amarillo’s orange citrus character. The palate sees more basil and orange collaborating together like great pals, plus a crisp mouth feel before finishing with a spiciness, dryness and notable bitterness means you want to keep drinking this I-never-knew-this-could-work beer.
Hops: Amarillo
Food pairing: The crispness and the herbal zip and zest of the basil would be intriguing with a simple pasta dish featuring onion, white wine, garlic, lemon juice, parmesan and basil.

Tasting notes:
There’s a simple explanation for the title of this luscious beer: Riwaka because it’s the name of the only hop used and Pacific pale ale because New Zealand is Riwaka’s home. With this puzzle solved let pour some into the glass. It is the colour of a hazy sunset, the kind of sunset at the end of a gorgeous day that you don’t want to see the end of. Now adore the shimmering aromatics of sweet mandarin, appetising grapefruit and delicate passion fruit that emerge from the glass, before diving deep into its very soul and enjoying a palate of more mandarin sweetness, a suggestion of grapefruit and white grape alongside a delicate undercurrent of light graininess, before it races to a graceful bitterness and a doughty dryness that lingers like the last rays of sun on this beautiful day.
Hops: Riwaka
Food pairing: The zigzag of fruitiness that Riwaka brings to this beer will make it an ideal companion to a serving of chicken enchiladas, dovetailing and dealing with the smoky chipotle chicken and crunch of peppers, or you might want to try it alongside a prawn jalfrezi, where it will help keep the heat of the chillies under control. Whatever you try you can’t lose.

Tasting notes:
Pssst…! The sound of a can of this American Pale Ale being opened is the prelude to a fragrant burst of aromatics. It evokes a bowl of tropical fruit that has been ripening in a sun-flecked kitchen, all thanks to the presence of Centennial, one of the great stars of US hops. The touch of tropical fruit plus a soothing lemon citrusiness continues on the palate and is joined by a great whoosh of bitterness that leads onto a dry, bittersweet and peppery finish. For 4.1% this beer packs a lot of character.

Tasting notes:
Get your palate ready to party with this happy-go-lucky hazy IPA, but first of all let the boing-boing of eager tropical fruit, citrus and resinous notes bounce out of the glass, eager and all-embracing as you prepare to take the first sip. More of the tropical fruitiness and citrus bounds about on the palate like an excited young dog, while there is also a citric tanginess in the mouth feel that is allied to a palatial bittersweetness before the parchment-like dry finish. Hints of melon, lemon and a light graininess also appear mid-palate as if to calm things down. A joyous beer with its own sense of joie-de-vive. Oh and the name of the beer? Apparently Uncanny Valley is the sense of unease you might feel when faced with an almost human-like robot, but for now let’s ditch the philosophy and concentrate on the beer.
Hops: Mosaic, El Dorado, Hallertau Blanc, Callista
Food pairing: Let’s sleep with the fishes and try the beer with spicy fish kebabs or maybe shell out in the fishmongers and match with scallops in Thai red curry, where the citric tanginess cuts through the rich sauce.

Tasting notes:
This is part of our Great Uncle John range, which honours the memory of founder Rik’s descendant who brewed in 1930s Canada. This is a traditionally hazy and juicy New England IPA featuring the Pekko and Sultana hop varieties from the US, both of which were not around when Great Uncle John was tending to his mash tun. On the other hand, he might have been enchanted by the rich interplay between light caramel and ripe stone fruit and joyful pineapple on the nose, the kind of aromatic temptation that gets the taste buds clambering to rush into action, and then further enthralled by more of this fruity one-two, the soothing mouth feel and the dry finish, which lingers like the call of wild geese heading home for the night’s roost. And once again we stress no spiders were harmed in the making of this beer.
Hops: Pekko, Sultana
Food pairing: This one is simple, it is time for cheese, perhaps the sharpest and tangiest Cheddar you can find, which dovetails with the fruitiness of the beer, while a well-matured, salty and creamy Stilton will also prove to be a wow with the beer. Ready, steady, salivate.

It’s New Zealand all the way for this lemon-gold looker of a Pale Ale. Taiheke and Rakau are both products of New Zealand and give this delicious beer a bouquet of lime, melon and lychee on the nose, which then transfers to the flavour before a delightfully crisp biscuity mid-palate note acts as a bridge to the dry and bittersweet finish that chimes away like a set of handbells.

HBC 522? Even though it sounds like a little known droid that had a cameo role in the first Star Wars, this collaboration of letters and numbers is actually a hop variety so new that no one has got around to naming it yet. What we do know about it though is that it is a vibrant little creature that brings a bright cascade of tropical fruit and citrus notes to this easy-drinking session IPA. Golden amber in colour, its nose shimmers with notes of melon, citrus, ripe mango and a hint of fresh pine forest after a shower of rain. There’s more of this fruitiness on the palate alongside a juicy mouthfeel, a delicate bittersweetness and a lasting dry finish that suggests you take another swig and perhaps be inspired to come up with a proper name for HBC 522!
Hops: HBC 522
Food pairing: The sweet, sour, hot and salty notes of Thai cuisine make an excellent escort to the bright and cheerful hoppiness of this beer, so how about a Pad Thai or fried basil and pork, with the latter’s fragrant and spicy character adding an extra dimension to the beer.

Tasting notes:
Let’s start with some sexy science. Kveik (rhymes with Mike), is the latest yeast strain to be let off the leash in the brewhouse. With its origins in Scandinavian farmhouse brewing, it unleashes tropical fruit aromatics and flavours, which, when linking arms with modern US hop fruit-bombs, can make your beer as fruity as a drunken vicar.
Not that there’s anything untoward about our sensual session IPA. Hazy and deep orange in colour, there’s a fruit basket of orange, mango, ripe peach and hints of pineapple on the nose, an intense appealing fruitiness that crooks its finger and beckons the drinker into the glass. The fruitiness continues on the palate with citrus, tropical fruit, peach and a lilt of bittersweetness before its dry and lightly bitter finish; a delicate graininess mid palate acts as a counterpoint to the fruitiness, stopping it toppling over into soft drink territory. Magic kveik indeed.
Hops: Amarillo
Food pairing:
Despite the link with Scandi brewing, it is to Mexico we turn for our food pairing with this lush beer. Perhaps an enchilada stuffed with chicken, cheese, and beans and then covered with a chilli sauce, with the fruitiness of the beer enlivening the palate and the carbonation cutting through the richness.

Tasting notes:
As Monty Python used to say… and now for something completely different. This perky potation is an elderflower-flavoured sour beer, and part of Frome’s Voodoo series. Flavoured with elderflowers and fermented with a wild yeast gathered in a graveyard in Philadelphia (yes you read that correct!), it’s a hazy, golden, juicy tipple whose nose pulsates with aromatics of elderflower, grapefruit and pineapple. Each sip reveals layers of gentle tartness, a soft sourness and light acidity accompanied by plenty of mouth-watering pineapple and grapefruit notes before its dry finish. Crisp, refreshing and quenching, this is a spirited beer that will bring back to life even the most jaded of palates.
Hops: BRU-1
Food pairing: Molluscs are a must as a match for the juiciness and tartness of Elder Fizz, so try grilled scallops or half-a-dozen oysters. Remaining in the sea, you might want to think about salt cod fritters, with the soft salinity of the snack achieving a kind of divine collaboration with the subtle and soft tartness of the beer.

(yes, we really used our imagination naming this one)
Tasting notes:
What will you have? I’d like a glass of Beer, please. Okay, that will be this shimmering blonde ale with its light gold sheen and hint of lime and pineapple on the nose alongside a gentle sway of floral fragrance. There’s a citrus fruitiness on the palate, once again a suggestion of lime, followed by a breakfast cereal-like sweetness, before it finishes bracingly dry and bitter. It might have a simple name but this is a very complete and satisfying Beer. Pint? Yes, please.
Hops: Challenger, Delta

Tasting notes:
If you’re wondering about the inspiration behind the name of this West Coast Pale Ale, then look no further than Elon Musk’s SpaceX, the reusable rocket that will keep going up into space time and time again. Not that we are sending our beer into space, but what it does mean is that several expressions of Space Taxi will be brewed, each with a different hop variety all with the aim of showcasing its character and treating you, the drinker.
With El Dorado the hop being used here, the beer is dark orange verging on amber in colour, and there are pear (think canned pear rather than a grocer’s Conference), ripe mango and the light aromatics of a ripe Galia melon on the nose. The palate is boosted by notes of pear, soft white peach, apricot, more mango, Galia melon and delicate biscuitiness before a lovely lingering bitter and dry finish.
Hops: Eldorado
Food pairing: Such is the sunny disposition of this beer that it will go exceedingly well with a doorstep of a Reuben sandwich in which the fruitiness and bitterness of the beer acts in concert with the pickle and umami of the sandwich to create a palate-boosting symphony.

Tasting notes:
Gulp by name, gulp by nature. This light, amber-coloured English style IPA rarely stays long in the glass such is its appetising appeal on the palate. Light but assertive notes of peach and grapefruit drift by on the nose, suggestive of a beery fruit salad, and then each gulp reveals orange or maybe tangerine fruitiness, a hint of pepperiness alongside a juicy bittersweetness before the bracing dryness and bitterness in the finish. A thoughtful and subtle beer that demands much contemplation with each gulp.
Hops: Admiral, Amarillo

Tasting notes:
If this porter was a car, it would be a smoothly purring Bentley, standing ready to whisk the drinker away on an exciting journey of taste. Impenetrably dark in the glass the aromatics are reminiscent of Black Forest gateau, with hints of chocolate, mocha coffee, light roastiness, blackberry and cherry (btw no cherries were harmed in the beer’s making with the aromatics coming from a judicious blend of five roasted malts). On the palate the beer is a halfway house between sweetness and a mysterious, silky roastiness alongside notes of chocolate, light cherry, delicate blackberry, mocha coffee before finishing dry and lightly roasty. Ready to set off on that journey?
Hops: Magnum, Rikau
Food pairing: hearty European dishes such as roast duck with cherries or bratwurst with sauerkraut are a winning combination with this beer, with the restrained sweetness and dark malt notes adding an extra dimension of flavour to the dishes.

Tasting notes:
Let’s get the basic details sorted out first. Sunny Y is an oat pale ale that has been hopped with the variety American Sultana (which is nothing to do with dried fruit btw) and also had yuzu added into the mix. What do you mean you don’t know what yuzu is? Ok, it’s a citrus fruit from the far east that adds bright sunny notes to this golden-yellow beer. The oats? They give a softness of mouth feel. So when it’s all put together, here’s an enticing beer with a joyous citrus and lemongrass nose, alongside the suggestion of ripe Galia melon. The fruitiness continues on the palate alongside hints of grapefruit and a juiciness that bounces around the palate as it were on a Space Hopper, before finishing dry and bittersweet. Yuzu? You now know what it is.
Hops: American Sultana
Food pairing: The bright citrus and suggestions of lemongrass suggest that a Thai dish such as Kai Med Ma Muang (chicken with cashew nuts) would be an ideal pairing.

WINNER OF A DOUBLE GOLD MEDAL at the European Beer Challenge 2021 - JUDGED THE BEST TIPA IN EUROPE!

Tasting notes:
There’s a couple of neat history lessons in this beer. For a start, it is hopped with Cluster, the earliest US hop variety, which also found its way into some British beers in the years before World War I. Secondly, it is based on the kind of lagers produced by the many small US breweries that were active before Prohibition (though many never came back afterwards). That’s enough lessons though, beer school’s out and it is time to pour a beer.

Pour yourself a long tall glass of this English Pale Ale and linger on the light amber gleam before taking in the captivating aromatics of ripe mango and freshly squeezed grapefruit on the nose thanks to Citra and Mosaic in the hop mix. There is more citrus and tropical fruit on the palate, which are balanced by a subtle bittersweetness, before finishing with a clean bitterness and lasting dryness that encourages you to take another swig (yes, this is a beer to swig rather than sip).
Hops: Idaho 7, Citra, Mosaic

Hop: Amarillo
Food pairing: The crispness and the herbal zip and zest of the basil would be intriguing with a simple pasta dish featuring onion, white wine, garlic, lemon juice, parmesan and basil.

Tasting notes:
Pssst… The sound of a can of this American Pale Ale being opened is the prelude to a fragrant burst of aromatics evoking a bowl of tropical fruit that has been ripening in a sun-flecked kitchen, all thanks to the presence of Centennial, one of the great stars of US hops. The touch of tropical fruit plus a soothing lemon citrusiness continues on the palate and is joined by a great whoosh of bitterness that leads onto a dry, bittersweet and peppery finish. For 4.1% this beer packs a lot of character.

Tasting notes:
New Zealand-grown Nelson Sauvin makes all the running in this juicy, light amber-hued IPA. Named because the hop variety’s characteristics are reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc (so that’s wine drinkers covered), it has made itself very comfortable in each glass of this intriguing IPA. It has light and lilting suggestions of gooseberry and lemon on the nose, while a similar fruitiness tantalises the palate, alongside a dash of white pepper followed by an arch of bitterness and dryness in the finish. Definitely one hop to rule them all as JRR Tolkien nearly wrote.

Galaxy, Australian Pale Ale 5.2% ABV
